Seat Down Vs Seat Up – What’s Actually The Difference For Mountain Biking?
How much difference does dropping your seat for descents actually make, and how do you convince someone of the benefits of a dropper post? Well here’s how:

We all know about the benefits of dropping your seat for descents, but not all of us do it. So, what happens when you make a die hard XC rider with his seat set to the millimetre lower his seat for a gnarly downhill? And, more interestingly perhaps, what happens when you take two world class downhillers and make them ride with their seats up?
The results are certainly surprising. How fast is an XC rider , and how much do downhillers rely on bike position?!

well you guys should have included bunny jump seat up seat down ^_^ …
Good video
QR on the seat tube, get your position, manually bring it up or down as
needed. Easy and cheap.
I had to mothball my 29er. I’m only a shortarse and I was just too high in
the saddle. Got myself a 27.5er, dropped the seat and am now tearing up the
trail (ha ha) with confidence. For me it’s got to be lower centre of
gravity = stability on the trail.
Not got a dropper post but I have 3 marks on my post in permanent marker –
high for pedaling, middle for easy downhill, and low for more serious
downhill. I placed the marks in line with the split in the seat tube which
means I can move the seat really quickly and know it is straight every
time.
Yeah that’s great for you downhill guys… what about those of us that
don’t do downhill and mainly do technical trails? Where we do a lot of
sitting since we’re not going down hill…
My wife weighs 98 pounds… I always get a good laugh watching her trying
to get her dropper post to go down. “What are you doing… I’m trying to
get my post down” as she bounces up and down on it..
A dropper post makes so much sense. I’m like Simon, always had the post up
for years…been playing with the height lately and can see the benefits.
Looking at one now. Damn GMBN…more money on the bike. Lol.
where do you guys go riding
now lets see that time going uphill, climbing a mountain?
It’s a great video guys. Shared to a long time roadie friend of mine just
getting in to MTB. It explains the advantages of the seat position better
than I ever could.
how do you use a dropper post? I’m getting a bike with one as stock this
year and id appreciate some knowledge before hand
wheres the track +Global Mountain Bike Network
I had a fixed post on my mtb bikes, it’s been suck* until I get a new bike
with a dropper one, it’s night and day. Never come back for a fixed one.
Marc, a dropper post is a fashion part untill you test. Once you test it
you’ll think: how could I leave withou this? Why nobody has invented it
before? ?
seat up = ass rape.
seat down = no ass rape.
enough said.
The Merida One-Forty 7.500 2015 is a reasonably priced bike that comes with
a dropper post as standard.
Last year i lost my balance going downhill at 2 km/h and couldn’t jump off
the bike because the seat was too high. I ended up rolling over a 1 metre
drop off and face planted the ground. I broke 3 ribs : /
Wheres the banter. Good start though. Good I idea to start this channel.
Like the content.
Well, I will conclude, I am riding since the 90’s, i am a bit conservative
on issues regarding bikes, like the 26″ vs 27.5″, dropper posts and so on.
Recently i upgraded my Intense 6.6 (Awesome bike) to a Scott Genius 740, i
also added a Fox Dos dropper post and i cant imagine myself without it
anymore. So whoever doesnt have one, go get one! It will upgrade and
enhance your ride in a few levels, you will learn to use the weight of your
body more efficiently and it will give you a sweeter riding experience! Im
all thumbs up for that!!!
Simon. Whyyyyyy. Come back.
All I can say is I’m faster down hill on my xc then my mates running
droppers on there trail bikes, skill is the most important aspect of
riding.
dropper all the way, it’s not just down for going down and up for up, I
have five or six positions depending on what surface I’m riding on, for
example; up fully for blasting smooth and simple stuff. Drawn out very
steep climbing – seat down about 20mm. Seat all the way down for full power
sprinting, up or down hills technical or not and even on the flat. Some
downhill burm sections perhaps 2/3 or 1/2 of the way down. All the way down
for jumps…what ever feels right, I’ve called mine yoyo post for obvious
reasons. I use my dropper nearly as much as my gears and tracloc.
Seat down
Do you have any tips when to use the dropper post and when not to use the
dropper post
I work at my LBS and our sales manager jokingly told the Cannondale Sales
Rep that dropper posts are so when you stop at a stop sign you can put your
feet on the ground.
