Crash – Car vs Mountain Bike

This is not something I am proud of, but need to post this video to hopefully pass on the important lesson I learned. I was riding from Ventura to Ojai this morning and chose to disregard the stop sign clearly located at the street corner. I thought I could get across and carry on with my ride without stopping. Dumb! Really DUMB!! Even though the car that hit me cruised through a yellow light into the corner (don’t we all?), the van blocked me from seeing it until it was too late. I should have played it safe! Thank God I am not hurt badly, bike took the worst of it. But this experience traumatized the sweet girl who was driving the car. Initially she was a little mad, and after a few moments she quite literally broke down crying surely thinking about what could have been. I spent some time consoling her, as she reminded me of my daughter and wouldn’t want her to have to go through something like this, or even worse! Please learn from my selfish, and idiotic mistake!

  Thanks for sharing it David, aside from the mistake you made – you handled
  it quite well! I just started riding a couple of months ago – did my
  longest ride to date this morning in fact – I’ve had a few close calls
