It’s very rare that you will ride on closed roads, so learning how to ride with awareness of other road users is important. Keep yourself safe by giving yourself space while also offering consideration to other road users. Clear hands signals and calls will make people aware of your intentions.
Finally – don’t jump red lights. It’s not just illegal, it’s dangerous!

I have to disagree with the advice to go single file on narrow roads. Stay
two abreast and have the cars moving fully into the oncoming lane to pass.
This shortens the amount of time that they have to be across the line.
When you single up, then they have to be across the line longer which means
that they need a longer gap in oncoming traffic to safely complete a pass.
It also means that they might try when they don’t have the gap and they’ll
move over on you to avoid a head on collision.

The problems is with some fast cycling road riders here in the Netherlands
that some tend to think that own the road and don’t need to run the cycling
path like everyone else and they tend to take big risks
You should check out my most recent commute video. I almost got hit by a
car while approaching a red light. It sucks when you ride safely and
courteously and still encounter jerks on the road.
Big fan of GCN but disappointed by this video. As others have said, the
advice about keeping left is outdated, and to turn right you should be up
towards the crown of the road and visible, not in the middle of the lane. I
found that my safety and comfort in the road increased massively when I
traded some of this old advice for the methods Chris Boardman and others
advocate. Fewer cars pass me in town now, and I have far fewer moments
where I feel like ‘that was close!’. Some of the more modern advice is
counter-intuitive at first, primary position in particular, but I can see
now, some time down the line, how it has made me safer on the road.

Your advice to remain .5m off of the kerb is completely against national
safety standards which suggest 3ft/1m

Do a video on how to properly smoke pot while riding……..sick of getting
ash is my eyes or a joint butt in the face. Proper weed etiquette.

not a very useful video for the states. but, why cyclist don’t use mirrors
is a puzzle…you wouldn’t drive your car sans a mirrors/mirrors
+GCN you do not say that every cyclist represents cycling as a whole it
gives driver an excuse to hate us as a whole.
“… be considerate to other road users, as each time you’re riding on the
road, you’re representing cyclists, as a whole”. Very true, and I wish this
fact was universally accepted and followed by cyclists. The same should
apply to drivers as well. Often times I see fights and quarrels being
picked between cyclists and drivers and it usually stems from
miscommunication of intent either when changing lanes, or making a turn.
Being mutually respectful on the road can make the experience a lot more
enjoyable for everyone.
A version of this video filmed on French roads would make it much more
useful for your American viewers as well. I would love to share this with
some of my groups, but I am afraid that it would confuse some of our more
“confusable” riders who actually need it the most. Thanks for the great
