I commute on a camel. Are these tips still applicable?
Cheesiest video ever.
I call troll on the helmet issue. lol Boy the stuff that spews from some
people just make me wonder.
You’re as dorky as I am. I like it.
I hear that — it’s a different situation here in NJ for me. The 400 lumen
Cygolite has been incredible (you’d be surprised how bright this is even
during the daytime). I used to have people pulling out on me all the time
(SMIDSYs and SMIDGAFs). Now, with the light, it hardly ever happens.
Toronto is a tough place to ride.
In Toronto during the canadian winter we wear boots if we’re walking to
work (assuming there’s snow), and switch into shoes when we get there. We
also ride our bikes in snow. But it’s more based on your employer, not on
our wishes, for example: I worked in a small store, we didn’t have room for
bikes inside, my boss wouldn’t allow it. Also on a bright sunny day, I
don’t think your 400 lumen light would attract as much attention as the
individual him/herself sitting clearly visible on the bike.
p.s. cool dubstep monsoon!
You use a flashlight in the daytime so that drivers do not pull our or
across your path when you are riding 20 mph+. Of course, if you ride at 10
mph everywhere, this may not be a problem you will experience. Road tires
don’t bring any more grit inside than shoes — is anyone asking you to take
your shoes off when you come in?
Yea that would work IF your bike actually is thin (not everyone has a road
bike), and IF your employer allows you to bring the bike in (in the rain or
winter that’s a mess). Most people don’t have that convenience. It’s common
to see heavy duty locks hanging by themselves on a rack or post throughout
the city. It’s people who are just leaving a lock at their parking spot so
they don’t have to carry a lock during commute. And why would you use a
flashlight in the daytime?
Just take your bike into your office: it’s thin and easily hang-able. Also
leave change of clothes in the office: you only need change undies, socks,
and shirts that are easily haul-able. Best advice: 400+lumen light on flash
during the daytime will save a LOT of grief. (I use a cygolite 400).
wtf… there are bike friendly places in the world… both motorists and
pedestrians seem to hate us here, the roads only have the odd bike lanes
and there will never be a bus like that here… kinda jealous
